Tomasz Skweres - cello
Tomasz Skweres – born on April 3, 1984 – is a Polish composer and cellist, who lives and works in Vienna in Austria and Regensburg in Germany. He studied composition (with Chaya Czernowin and Detlev Müller-Siemens) and cello (with Valentin Erben and Stefan Kropfitsch) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
Tomasz Skweres is an active interpreter in the field of contemporary music, performing regularly at important festivals for contemporary music all over the world, such as Warsaw Autumn, Wien Modern, Musica Polonica Nova, Klangspuren (Austria), Biennale Bern. Many contemporary composers dedicated to him his works. Since 2012 Tomasz Skweres has been principal cellist of the Philharmonic Orchestra Regensburg in Germany, 2016 – 2017 he was lecture for cello at the Musik University in Detmold (Hochschule für Musik Detmold).

Tomasz Skweres won many prizes, competitions and received scholarships – among others: Staatsstipendium for
composition 2014 and Startstipendium 2010 – government scholarship for composition, the Prize for Music
(Composition) of Vienna 2015, 2. Prize of Zemlinsky Prize 2019, Winner of the international composition competitions TONALi 2017 and Joseph Reinl. He composed pieces commissioned by Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, by Konzerthaus in Vienna, Festival Wien Modern, Festival Warsaw Autumn, Philhamonic Orchestra Regensburg, Niederbayerische Philharmonie, Apollon Musagete Quartet, Ensemble Wiener Collage and by many others. Works by Tomasz Skweres are published by Sikorski Music Publishers in Hamburg and Doblinger Publisher in Vienna.
